Can I even tell you how excited I am to go to IWCE in Tampa this year? First, who does not love Florida weather in March, and second, I get to talk about numbers and pricing and profits. You see, this is my love language!

As a creative business owner, I know what it feels like to work with all my heart and soul, giving up hours with my family and friends to make a beautiful product or design a fantastic space only to be left at the end with no profit. EVEN when I tried to build it in. Changing this outcome of lack of profitability has been my passion for the last eleven years.

First, I started with good business practices and set boundaries in business and relationships, and then I moved on to the value statements and pricing of my products and services. After that came metrics. As the saying goes, “you get what you inspect, not what you expect.” So, inspect I did! What I found was exciting and sad all at the same time. Every time I see my business in a new way I commit to making changes that will get me closer to my goals. And sometimes this is quite painful, especially if I have been doing things differently for a while.

That is the beauty of conferences. They not only make us feel like we are doing things well – but they shine a light on what we could be doing better (or shouldn’t be doing at all!)

In the seminar “Flat Fees That Work” we will be digging in to all aspects of flat fees. Some of you may have tried using a flat fee system before and had issues – others of you may be really successful with setting a flat fee. Either way, flat fees, like most other pricing strategies can work.

For any pricing structure to be successful, I believe you need an understanding in these three areas:

  1. A confidence in what you are selling and the value you have assigned to the product or service.

  2. An understanding of how the fee was derived.

  3. A strategy to work around the pitfalls of the chosen pricing model and to price for what you do not know

Join me in talking all things money, pricing and profitability at IWCE. Trust me, you will have the tools to go back and look at your pricing and will be able to understand flat fees to determine if they will work for you.
